Error Messages

This page lists the messages the app can show, what they mean and what you can do about them. A text between braces, such as {0}, is replaced by a name or number in the real message.

Connecting to a Windows Computer

"We couldn't connect to your computer. It may be offline, or its network address may have changed since it was last found."

The app couldn't find your PC on the network. Check that the PC is on, that SyncFolder is running on it, and that both devices are on the same network. If it still fails, tap Connect via QR code on the Select a computer page and scan the QR code shown in SyncFolder on the PC.

"We're still trying to connect to this computer. This usually takes just a few seconds — please try again in a moment."

The computer was found, but the connection isn't ready yet. Wait a few seconds and tap the computer again.

"Searching takes longer than expected."

No computer was found yet. This can happen on some networks, or if your access was removed on the PC. Tap Connect via QR code to connect with a QR code.

"Detected {0} Windows SyncFolder File Servers, but none match your registration. Please try re-pairing your device."

Computers with SyncFolder were found, but not the one this task was set up with. This happens, for example, after SyncFolder was reinstalled on the PC. Pair again by scanning the QR code.

"Authorization has been removed. You must scan the QR code again."

The PC no longer accepts this device, for example because the device was removed in SyncFolder on Windows. Tap Scan QR code and pair again.

"Access to {0} has been revoked."

Same cause as above: the computer named in the message has removed your device. Pair again with the QR code.

"The Windows computer with device ID {0} has not been authenticated yet."

The task refers to a computer this device isn't paired with, for example after you imported a repository on a new device. Open the task with Configure, select the computer again and scan its QR code.

"Authentication failed"

The computer refused the connection. Pair again by scanning the QR code.

"There are no root folders configured on the server."

No folders are shared in SyncFolder on the PC. In the Windows app, open the Mobile Access & Sharing service and add at least one shared folder.

"Please reauthenticate"

Shown after an upload when the computer asked the app to sign in again. Start the upload again and scan the QR code when asked.

Scanning a QR Code

"Could not detect QR code"

The camera couldn't read the code. Hold the device steady, a bit further from the screen, and make sure the whole code is visible.

"Invalid QR code."

The scanned code isn't a SyncFolder pairing code. Scan the QR code shown by SyncFolder on your PC.

"This QR code was created by an older version of the Windows app. Please update it and try again."

Update SyncFolder on your PC via the Microsoft Store and show a new QR code.

"This app needs to be updated to use this QR code."

The Windows app is newer than this app. Update SyncFolder on your device via the Google Play Store.

"Pairing failed."

The pairing session expired, a network problem occurred, or the QR code was invalid. Show a new QR code on the PC and scan it again.

Running a Task

"There is no folder configured for {0}"

No folder is selected for the source or destination. Open the task with Configure and select a folder.

"Storage location has not been configured"

The task has no storage type for its source or destination. Open the task with Configure and choose a storage location.

"Error when scanning {0}"

The app couldn't read the contents of the source or destination. The line below it gives the reason. Common causes: the NAS or PC is off, the device isn't on Wi-Fi, or access to the folder was withdrawn.

"Can't open {0}. Ensure the selected folder exists and is accessible"

The folder on the NAS doesn't exist anymore, or the account has no access to it. Check the folder on the NAS, or select another folder in the task.

"File or folder not found"

A file or folder disappeared while the task was running, for example because it was deleted or moved on the PC. Run the task again.

"Duplicate items detected"

The results show The next files differ only by letter case or The next folders differ only by letter case. Rename one of the items in each pair and run the task again. See Task states.

"The next files failed to be copied" / "The next files failed to be deleted"

Most files were handled, but the listed ones weren't. Run the task again. If the same files keep failing, check that they aren't open in another program and that there is enough free space at the destination.

"Incomplete configuration"

The action couldn't run because the source or destination isn't configured. Configure the task first.

Storage and Permissions

"External storage not available"

Your device cannot connect to external USB devices. Your phone or tablet doesn't support USB On-The-Go (OTG), so USB drives can't be used.

"Some shared folders have lost their access permission."

Android withdrew access to one or more folders of the Mobile Sync Server. Tap Fix Folders, delete the folders with a red background and add them again.

"Needs permission!"

The app needs permission to show notifications to keep the Mobile Sync Server running in the background. Tap OK and allow notifications in the next popup. See Permissions.
