Creating a Sync Task
A sync task describes what is copied (the Source), where it goes (the Destination) and how it's copied. You set up a task once and then run it as often as you like, by hand or automatically.
Add a Task
- On the Home page, tap Add your first task, or tap the + button at the top.
- The Configure task page opens. Fill in the settings described below.
- Tap Save at the top of the page.
If you leave the page without saving, the app asks Save your changes? Discard to leave. Tap Save to keep your changes, or Discard to throw them away.
Task Settings
A name you choose, for example Camera to NAS. It's shown in the task list on the Home page.
Tap to choose how the destination is updated:
- Copy only: new and updated files are copied to the destination. Nothing is deleted. Files that you delete from the source stay at the destination.
- One-Way Sync (Mirror): the destination becomes a copy of the source. Files that no longer exist in the source are also removed from the destination.
Choose Copy only for a backup of your photos where you want to free up space on your phone later. With One-Way Sync (Mirror), photos you delete from your phone are also removed from the backup at the next run.
Tap Source or Destination and choose a storage location: photos and videos on the device, internal or removable storage, a NAS, OneDrive or a Windows computer. Then select the folder. See Storage locations for the details of each type.
Photos and Videos on device can only be used as the source.
Use filters to skip certain files or folders, or to sync only specific ones. The setting shows how many filter lines are active. See Filters.
When enabled, the app runs this task automatically every 15 minutes, even when the app isn't open. See Automatic background sync.
How the app decides that a file has changed and must be copied again:
- File size only: files are compared by size. This is the fastest method.
- File size and date modified: files are compared by size and modification date. This option isn't available when the source or destination is internal storage or an SD card.
- File size and content hash: files are compared by size and a content fingerprint. This is the most reliable method, but it takes longer because every file must be read.
Extra settings, such as copying empty folders or how deleted files are handled. The setting shows how many options are active. See Advanced task settings.
Change or Delete a Task
- To change a task, tap the … button next to it on the Home page and choose Configure, or open the task and tap Edit.
- To delete a task, choose Delete and confirm with Yes. Only the task is deleted. Your files aren't touched.
After you save changes to a task, its state and last result are reset. The next run compares the source and destination again from scratch.
Best Practices
- Test first: run a new task with Simulate to see what would be copied or deleted, without transferring any data.
- Check the folders: with One-Way Sync (Mirror), make sure the destination folder is empty or meant only for this task. Files in it that aren't in the source will be removed.
