Storage Locations

Every task has two storage locations: a Source and a Destination. In the task configuration, tap one of them and then tap Storage location to choose the type. The settings that follow depend on the type you choose.

Photos and Videos on Device

The photos and videos in your device's media library: camera pictures, screenshots, downloaded images, WhatsApp media and so on. This type can only be used as the Source.

Media folders

Tap Choose media folders... to open the list of media folders:

  • Recent folders: the folders you used last.
  • Shortcuts: All photos or All videos on the device.
  • All folders: every folder that contains photos or videos, such as Camera or Screenshots.

To select more than one folder, press and hold a folder, tap the others, and then tap Select.

Internal or Removable Storage

Files stored on this device: internal storage, an SD card or a USB drive connected to your phone.

Folder

Tap Select folder.... Android's own folder picker opens. Go to the folder you want, tap Use this folder and confirm with Allow.

A USB drive only works if your phone or tablet supports USB On-The-Go (OTG). If it doesn't, the app shows External storage not available.

NAS

Files stored on a network device (NAS, router with a USB disk, or a shared folder on a computer) that you reach over your local network (LAN or Wi-Fi). The device must support SMB file sharing, version 2 or higher. Fill in the settings from top to bottom. Each next setting appears once the previous one is filled in.

Network address

The IP address of the NAS, for example 192.168.1.20.

Account and Password

The user name and password of an account on the NAS that has access to the share.

Share

Tap Select share.... The app connects to the NAS and shows its shares. Tap the one you want.

Folder

Select a folder inside the share (see Selecting a folder below).

OneDrive

Files stored in the cloud in your Microsoft OneDrive.

Account

Tap Link an account. The Microsoft sign-in page opens. Sign in with your Microsoft account and allow SyncFolder to access your files. After that the account name is shown.

Folder

Select a folder in your OneDrive (see Selecting a folder).

When OneDrive is the destination, the app's recycle bin isn't used. OneDrive keeps deleted files in its own recycle bin.

Windows Computer

Files stored on a Windows PC. SyncFolder must also be installed and running on that computer.

Windows computer

Tap Select computer.... The app searches your network for computers running SyncFolder. Select your computer. If this is the first time, you pair the devices by scanning a QR code. See Connecting to a Windows computer.

Folder

Select a folder on the computer. You only see the folders that are shared in the SyncFolder app on Windows.

Selecting a Folder

For a NAS, OneDrive or a Windows computer, the app shows its own Select a folder page:

  • Tap a folder to open it. The path at the top shows where you are. Tap a part of the path to go back up.
  • Tap + to create a new folder in the current folder.
  • Tap Use this folder to select the folder you're in.

Best Practices

  • Fixed address for your NAS: give your NAS a fixed IP address in your router, so the address in your task stays valid.
  • Separate folders: use a separate destination folder for each task, especially with One-Way Sync (Mirror).
