Working with the Android App
SyncFolder also exists as an app for Android. The Windows app and the Android app can work together over your local Wi-Fi network, in two directions:
| Windows uses the phone | The phone uses Windows | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A task on the PC syncs with folders on the phone. | A task in the Android app syncs with, or uploads to, folders on the PC. |
| Server runs on | The phone — Mobile Sync Server in the Android app | The PC — Mobile Access & Sharing in the Windows app |
| Task configured on | The PC, with location type SyncFolder Mobile Sync (Android) | The phone, with location type Windows computer |
| Security | Password set on the phone | One-time pairing with a QR code |
| Guide page | SyncFolder Mobile Sync | Mobile Access and Sharing |
Which one to choose? If the PC is on most of the time and you want the phone to decide when to sync (for example right after you took photos), let the phone use Windows. If you want the PC to sync with the phone on a schedule, or you need a 2-way sync that is managed from the PC, let Windows use the phone.
Windows Uses the Phone
- On the phone, open the SyncFolder app, go to the Mobile Sync Server page, choose the folders to share, set a password and start the server.
- On the PC, create a task and choose the location type SyncFolder Mobile Sync (Android).
- Click Select drive/folder, select the phone in the list, enter its password and click Connect.
- If the phone is not listed, click Show QR code on the PC and tap Scan QR code on the phone's Mobile Sync Server page.

The Phone Uses Windows
- On the PC, open Mobile Access & Sharing from the Home page, switch it on and add one or more shared folders (Shared root folders).
- On the phone, create a task with the location type Windows computer, tap Select computer and pick your PC.
- On the PC, open Pair a new device. On the phone, tap Select folder and scan the QR code when the app asks for it.
- After pairing, choose one of the shared folders on the phone.

Network Requirements
- The PC and the phone must be connected to the same local network. Access over the internet or mobile data is not supported.
- Normally the devices find each other automatically. Some networks block this — mesh Wi-Fi systems, guest networks, routers with AP isolation (client isolation), or a VPN on the PC or phone.
- When automatic discovery doesn't work, pair with a QR code. For the phone-uses-Windows direction you can also switch on Device Discovery in Mobile Access & Sharing (see Device Discovery).
- Windows Firewall must allow SyncFolder on private networks. Make sure your Wi-Fi network is set to Private in Windows, not Public.
