App Settings
The Settings page contains the settings that apply to the whole app rather than to a single task. Open it with the gear button on the Home page or the Tasks page.
Preferences
When on, SyncFolder opens directly on the Tasks page instead of the Home page.
Shows a SyncFolder icon in the notification area of the taskbar, with a menu to open the app, stop all tasks or close the app. SyncFolder keeps running in the background either way. See System Tray Icon.
"Delays automatic task execution at startup or logon. Useful if your tasks depend on network drives or external storage that take time to connect."
When off, SyncFolder doesn't show Windows notifications, for example about failed background tasks. Notifications must also be allowed for SyncFolder in Windows โ see Permissions.
Normally SyncFolder doesn't notify you when a task that you started yourself succeeds, because you can see the result in the app. Switch this on to always get a notification when such a task finishes. Only shown when notifications are on.
Shows a notification when a new version of SyncFolder is ready to install. See Updates.
Remind me again after this many days (default 3, minimum 1) โ how long the Remind me button of that notification postpones it.
Language
"Select app language. Note: You must restart the app to make the change visible." SyncFolder is available in English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Korean and Chinese (Simplified).
Diagnostic Data
Log Files
"Save all events that are related to task execution in log files. Turn this option on when SyncFolder is not doing what is expected. The log files can be important if you contact SyncFolder support."
- Logging disabled
- Logging enabled - basic โ hides the names of files and folders to protect your privacy.
- Logging enabled - detailed โ includes the names of files and folders.
Click Show files in Explorer to open the folder with the log files, for example to attach them to a support request.
Error Reporting and Fault Tracing
"Help improve SyncFolder by automatically sending anonymous crash reports. This data is strictly technical and contains no personal information." This is the same setting as Diagnostic data in the dialog shown at the first start.
Only shown when Error Reporting is on. "If you are experiencing issues with the app, please contact our support team. To help us diagnose and resolve your issue quickly, the support agent may ask you to enable Fault Tracing below and to provide your unique Installation ID." The events contain purely technical data and no file names or personal information. Only switch this on when the SyncFolder support team asks you to.
When on, Your Installation ID is shown, with a button to copy it.
Import and Export
"You can copy SyncFolder's tasks repository to another computer by using the following Import and Export functions."
Saves all your tasks to a file. If tasks contain stored passwords, SyncFolder asks for a password to protect them: "You can choose not to provide a password but then all user passwords are saved as readable text in the exported file. Providing a password saves them in encrypted form."
Loads tasks from an exported file. If the file is protected with a password, you are asked for it. Possible results:
- Import was successful.
- Import was successful except for the user/password credentials. โ enter the credentials again in the affected tasks.
- Import has failed. Check if the file is a valid repository.
Use export as a backup of your task configuration before reinstalling Windows or moving to a new PC. On the new PC, check the locations of each task after importing: drive letters and network paths may differ.
Cloud sign-ins (OneDrive, Google Drive) are stored on the PC where you signed in. On a new PC, open tasks that use these services and click Select drive/folder to sign in again if needed.
