Advanced Task Settings
Fine-tune how your synchronization task behaves. These settings allow you to control specific file attributes and deletion safety measures.
Folder & Attribute Handling
Sync Empty Folders When enabled, the app will recreate your entire folder structure at the destination, even if those folders contain no files. If disabled, only folders containing at least one synced file will be created.
Include Hidden and System Items By default, many operating systems hide configuration and system-level files. Enable this option if you need to back up application data, configuration files, or specific system folders that are marked with "Hidden" or "System" attributes.
Deletion & Safety
Use Recycle Bin for Deletions Default: Enabled For 1-way sync tasks, files at the destination that no longer exist at the source must be removed. To prevent accidental data loss, these files are moved to the Recycle Bin/Trash instead of being permanently deleted.
Note: this feature depends on the destination drive supporting a Recycle Bin. Some external drives or network shares may bypass the bin and delete files permanently.
Delete Excluded Items at Destination If you add a new filter to exclude certain files, those files will remain at the destination from previous sync runs. Enabling this setting ensures that your destination is a perfect mirror of your source by removing any files that are now excluded by your filters.
Warning: files deleted because they matched an exclusion filter are permanently removed and are not moved to the Recycle Bin.
Best Practices
- Mirroring: if you want the destination to be a 1:1 copy of the source, enable both "Sync Empty Folders" and "Delete Excluded Items."
- Safety first: keep "Use Recycle Bin" enabled unless you are syncing very large temporary files that would unnecessarily fill up your bin.
